Answer the Factoid Question correctly and win a $25 Amazon gift card!

Welcome to Factoid Friday, a guessing game that blends a twist of trivia with an interactive component and features pieces of iconic automotive history from Mitchell 1. To keep things interesting, we even offer a prize!

In a recent Throwback Thursday blog post, we wrote about Mitchell 1’s Publishing Days and the huge effort it took to prepare, print and ship more than a million manuals a year. If you’ve been in the auto repair business for a while, no doubt you had some of these Mitchell Repair Manuals in your shop. You may even still have them hanging around, despite the fact that all that information—and millions of pages more — is now presented online in our ProDemand® software.

With the incredible explosion of vehicle repair information now available for modern cars and trucks, it’s hard to even imagine how much paper would be required to print the data in book form. Even back in 1999, the amount of paper was staggering… which brings us to our Factoid Friday.

Here’s the Factoid Question:

How many pounds of paper were used to print the Mitchell Repair manuals in 1999?

Hint: Here are a few nuggets from the Mitchell 1’s Publishing Days  blog post that might help you:

In 1999 alone:

  • Mitchell Repair published 360 different titles
  • A total of one million manuals were printed onsite
  • The paper used would fill 67 tractor trailers or cover 16 square miles if spread out in a single sheet

For additional hints, also check our Twitter feed (using the hashtag #M1FactoidFriday): https://twitter.com/Mitchell1

This gives you an idea of the amount of paper used to produce the Mitchell Manuals.
