DuPont releases statement on HFO-1234yf

HFO-1234yf is the part of a new class of refrigerants formulated to reduce impacts on the atmosphere but it hasn’t been without controversy. This has mostly been about concerns of the flammability of the refrigerant and that it has the potential to cause fires in automotive collisions or even in engine compartment leaks. Mercedes-Benz has been the biggest manufacturer fighting against planned rules to phase out the current use of R-134a refrigerant and replace it with HFO-1234yf.

Dupont, along with Honeywell, own most of the patents for HFO-1234yf and has released a statement  regarding the final statement of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) about its review of testing of this refrigerant.
