1 recommends using business class Pentium computers.
Although custom-built clone machines may run well, the
majority of problems result from poorly engineered equipment.
Mitchell 1 recommends using name brand business computers
from Dell®, Gateway®, Compaq®, and HP®.
3COM® or Intel® cards are required for networking.
Systems intended for five (5) or more concurrent users
should consider a dedicated Windows server. Most Windows
networks should be configured with two DVD drives for
OnDemand5 Repair data and the Estimator data should
be copied to the hard drive during installation. Although
there are various processors available in the market
place (e.g., Cyrix and AMD), Mitchell 1 highly recommends
the Intel processors for product reliability. For applications
requiring a modem, 3COM/US Robotics modems are recommended.
OnDemand5 and Manager include optional training videos.
Users wishing to view the videos will require a system
configured with a sound card and speakers.
Note on Windows Vista: Mitchell 1 is currently performing compatibility tests and will provide updated status when the testing is completed. Preliminary results indicate our core products Manager/ManagerPlus, Repair, Estimator, and OnDemand5.com work on the new operating system. However, certain parts catalogs do not. Ask support about your catalogs before upgrading.

Note on Hard Drive Space: Keeping an eye towards future releases, we recommend using a larger capacity internal or external hard drive, with a minimum of 250 GB free space. At this writing, the data volume requires 70+ GB for copying. By using a larger drive, it is possible to copy new DVD discs at your convenience and not interrupt access to the previous volume. When copying is completed, simply delete the old data to make room for the following quarter's release.
